Institute of Food Science & Nutrition

The Department of Food Science and Technology was established in 2005. Keeping in view its multi-disciplinary prospects and degree programs offered,the Department was upgraded to the status of Institute of Food Science and Nutrition in 2010.

The Institute offers PhD, MSc (Hons) and BSc (Hons) programs designed to produce high caliber graduates and researchers in the field of Food Science and Technology and Food &Nutrition. The Institute has four practical and research labs and two processing halls. It has pursued its teaching and research programs in recognition of the fact that the food industry and food controlling authorities in Pakistan are still in its fledgling state.

Hence, the scheme of study is based on practical trainings aiming to train the required manpower and expertise that will help the industry and produce the healthy community contributing in the economic development of the country.

The faculty is involved in teaching and research besides some administration responsibilities and memberships of regulatory bodies. Some research projects funded by HEC and ORIC (UOS) are being run at the Institute. The core areas of study and research are food chemistry and analysis, food safety and microbiology, food processing and engineering, dairy and meat technology, cereals and baking technology, fruits and vegetable technology, oils, fats and sugar technology and human nutrition and dietetics.
