Around 1,500 students received laptops under the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme during a ceremony held at the University of Sargodha.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain graced the ceremony as the chief guest. He was accompanied by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Special Representative to the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme on Women Development Ms. Maha Jamil, PM Youth Programme representative on IT Mr. Asfand Yar Naseer, Special Representative for International Linkages and Youth Development Mr. Rizwan Anwar, representatives of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), faculty members, and students.
Addressing the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas highlighted the University’s academic and developmental progress in the areas of academic excellence, research innovation, international linkages, and transition towards solar energy. He stated that the Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme reflects the government’s commitment to promoting digital learning and skill development among youth. He added that the University of Sargodha remains dedicated to supporting national education initiatives and strengthening research and technology-driven learning.
Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain congratulated the students and urged them to utilize the laptops to enhance their academic and professional skills. He emphasized that youth empowerment through technology is essential for national progress and sustainable development. He stressed the importance of linking academic research with industry to achieve practical outcomes and encouraged universities to play a proactive role in addressing national and industrial challenges.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Asfand Yar Naseer said the initiative reflects the government’s confidence in the capabilities of youth, while Mr. Rizwan Anwar highlighted that the scheme aims to support students’ innovative ideas and encourage them to contribute to personal and national development.
The ceremony also featured performances by the Riaz Shad Co-Curricular Forum, including recitations of Iqbal’s poetry and national songs. A documentary on the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and the Digital Youth Hub was also presented, highlighting the programme’s objectives and opportunities for students.
