As part of efforts to enhance citrus productivity and market competitiveness, the University of Sargodha organised a Farmer Field Day at Chak 118 NB under the Citrus Value Chain Project supported by the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR).
The event served as a platform for citrus growers, rural women and agricultural experts to exchange experiences and review progress made under the project.
Speaking on the occasion, Project Team Leader Prof. Dr. Muhammad Irfan Ullah said the initiative aims to improve fruit quality, introduce efficient marketing mechanisms and increase profitability for farmers through research-driven interventions.
Dr. Luqman underscored the importance of farmer engagement and practical demonstrations in ensuring the adoption of modern production and post-harvest practices.
Faculty members and stakeholders, including Dr. Raheel Anwar, Malik Abdul Rehman, Dr. Saima Sadaf, Dr. Muhammad Yaseen, Dr. Ammara Aini and Dr. Humera Amin, highlighted field-level challenges and the need for coordinated efforts to strengthen the citrus supply chain.
Principal College of Agriculture Prof. Dr. Ijaz Rasool Noorka termed the project a significant step towards bridging the gap between research and farming communities.
Project Officer Dr. Ahsan Qureshi, Social Mobiliser Ms. Shafaq and Research Associate Mr. Talha appreciated farmersโ active involvement.
The organisers also acknowledged the support of national and Australian experts, including Prof. Dr. Ahmad Sattar, Dr. Raj, Dr. Gomathy and Tim, whose guidance facilitated the effective implementation of the project.
The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session focusing on sustainable practices and market-oriented citrus development in the region.
