The Institute of Art and Design, University of Sargodha, organized a seminar titled “Social and Cultural Change through Art and Design”.
The event aimed to explore the transformative power of art as a medium of social awareness and cultural evolution.
Vice Chancellor UoS Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his remarks, he emphasized the significance of art and design in shaping collective consciousness, fostering inclusivity, and promoting progressive thought in society. He appreciated the Institute’s efforts in engaging students and scholars in creative discussions that link art to social development.
The seminar featured distinguished speakers including Prof. Qudus Mirza, renowned art critic and professor at the School of Visual Arts and Design, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore, and Prof. Dr. Kanwal Khalid, representing the Punjab Higher Education Department. Both shared their expert insights on how art can challenge stereotypes, bridge cultural divides, and act as a catalyst for constructive societal change.
Prof. Qudus Mirza discussed the evolving relationship between art and society, highlighting how creative expression has historically been used to question norms and encourage empathy. Prof. Kanwal Khalid, in her address, reflected on her experiences as an artist and educator, emphasizing the importance of visual culture in addressing social issues and nurturing critical thinking.
The event also included interactive discussions that allowed students and participants to share their perspectives and engage directly with the speakers.
The event was organized under the supervision of Director, Institute of Art and Design Maryam Saif, and coordinated by Ms. Huma Sajjad, Lecturer at the Institute.
