VC University of Sargodha calls on to Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Sargodha (UoS), Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas, called on the Governor of Punjab and Chancellor of the University, Sardar Saleem Haider, and briefed him on the university’s academic, research, and developmental progress.

During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas informed the Governor that the University of Sargodha currently has more than 25,000 students, with an equal number enrolled in its affiliated colleges. He shared that the university is actively working to promote innovation and entrepreneurship among students through its incubation center, which is supporting student-led startups and enterprise development initiatives.

The Vice Chancellor also apprised the Governor of the university’s growing international engagement, with particular reference to China. He stated that the University of Sargodha is in the process of establishing a joint academic campus in China, which will be the first overseas campus of a Pakistani public-sector university, under an agreement signed with the Changjiang Li Autonomous County Government, Hainan Province.

Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas further informed that the university has entered into agreements for the establishment of collaborative research and technology centers, joint degree programs, and international training initiatives in key areas including technology, maritime education, and digital innovation. He added that, in another significant development, a Letter of Intent (LoI) has also been signed to develop an international hospital in Sanya, Hainan Province, further expanding the university’s global presence.

Briefing the Governor on research activities, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the successful conduct of the 2nd Annual Research Arena, during which more than 100 research and academic activities were organized, reflecting the university’s strong and evolving research culture.

He also shared details of the university’s self-sufficiency and sustainability initiatives, including the transition to solar energy across multiple campuses, which has been completed through internal resources.

Responding to the briefing, Governor Sardar Saleem Haider emphasized the importance of quality teaching, impactful research, and forward-looking students in strengthening Pakistan’s global academic standing. He assured continued support for initiatives that contribute to regional and national development and reiterated the core purpose of universities in advancing knowledge and progress.

Sardar Saleem Haider further said that the initiatives being undertaken by the University of Sargodha, particularly in the areas of research promotion, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and global partnerships, are aligned with the broader vision of strengthening Pakistan’s academic and economic future.

Furthermore, Prof. Dr. Qaisar Abbas formally invited the Governor to preside over the 12th Convocation of the University of Sargodha, which was graciously accepted.
