World AIDS Day Observed at UoS with HIV Awareness Seminar

The Department of Sociology & Criminology at the University of Sargodha marked World AIDS Day by organizing an HIV Awareness Seminar aimed at promoting prevention, reducing stigma, and strengthening public understanding of HIV/AIDS.
 

‎The seminar featured Dr. Matloob-ul-Hassan, Head of the HIV Center at Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital, Sargodha, as the keynote speaker. In his address, Dr. Matloob-ul-Hassan highlighted the current HIV situation in Pakistan and underscored the importance of early testing, safe practices, and dispelling misconceptions associated with the disease. He stressed that breaking silence and stigma is essential for timely treatment and effective community support.
 

‎Addressing the seminar, Dr. Shehzad Khawer Mushtaq, Incharge of the Department of Sociology & Criminology, emphasized the significance of World AIDS Day as a global reminder of collective responsibility to promote awareness, compassion, and evidence-based health practices. He appreciated the department’s continued efforts to connect academic learning with critical social issues.
 

‎Dr. Zarqa Azhar, focal person of the event, highlighted the need for regular awareness activities, particularly among young people. She said that universities play a vital role in shaping informed perspectives and empowering students to contribute to public health advocacy.
 

‎The seminar was attended by faculty members, researchers, and students from various departments, who actively participated in the discussion. The event concluded with a renewed commitment to advancing HIV awareness, supporting affected communities, and fostering a culture of dignity, understanding, and health literacy.
